The community based approach is enabling the communities to identify hazards and vulnerabilities associated with their locations and formulate action plans to mitigate adverse impacts. Women and senior citizens are being given special attention during the planning process. Each village now has its own village Emergency Responses Plan Response Teams. Communities are building their capacities on floods and erosion management through various trainings they are receiving under the program. As a result of CBFRML interventions, communities are prioritising their structural mitigation measures at the household and community level such as the raising of homesteads, installation of tube wells, construction of roads, community place, and cluster village raising as well as construction of new dyke, drainage, and improvement of sanitary system in the flood affected areas.
